The Woodside neighborhood is a part of the borough of Queens in New York City. Although the name indicates plenty of wood, the region asn't always that way. The area used to be known for its marshes, muddy flats and bogs. Due to this, the area was scarcely inhabited for many years until the place was drained in the early 1900s. The population grew since then and became the largest Irish community in Queens.

Nowadays, the neighborhood is mostly known as a concrete jungle, except for a few hidden away spots for the dog-lovers in the area. One area is known as the Doughboy Plaza and Dog Run, an enclosed park that allows dogs to run around safely off-leash. Features include benches, trails, clean-up stations, double-gated fences and water fountains.

You'll be surprised to hear though Woodside has another fenced-in dog run at Sherry Park. Although only made up of asphalt, the area is closed in with high fences and allows dogs to stretch their legs while running freely. There are benches and picnic areas to be found here, and chess games are often played by park goers. Other dog-friendly options include Sprango Park and Crosson Green.

With three different animal hospitals, it's not hard to tell that Woodside loves its resident dogs.
