W.O. Riley Park is located at 540 Park Avenue and has everything you could possibly need in a park, including basketball and tennis courts, a playground, and a soccer field. Fairview Dog Park was created in 2017 with the objective of establishing a place in which dogs can interact with other dogs and people without the restraint of a leash. The park is located inside the larger Fairview Park and is divided into two spaces: one for large dogs and another for small dogs. The park also has many obstacles to keep the dogs active and entertained, including earthen mounds, tunnels to explore, jump hurdles, agility poles, a hill climb, and a bridge walk. There's a maximum of 3 dogs per person, and dogs must be 6 months or older.

Woolen Mills
Riverview Park is another beautiful spot to take the pooch for a walk. There are two wooded trails that you can visit, with one offering breathtaking views of the Shenandoah River. Part of the Rivanna hiking trail also runs through Riverview Park, so if you’re feeling adventurous, you can follow this trail around the entire city of Charlottesville. Riverview Park is also a very dog-friendly zone, and pooches are encouraged to take a dip in the river (which might be just what is needed after all that hiking!). The park even has off-leash days on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday.

Probably the biggest draw for nature lovers in the area is the legendary Shenandoah National Park. This majestic park – with its waterfalls and spectacular vistas – includes an astonishing 500 miles of trails, all but 20 of which are dog-friendly. Take a drive along the Skyline Drive National Scenic Byway, and marvel at the breathtaking views of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
