Wyanet is a very small village that is not short on hospitality. Originally founded in 1821, Wyanet is so community driven and helpful, they have the motto of "Neighbor helping neighbor," and host a weekly community dinner. With a town this beautiful and loving, even resident and visiting dogs can feel right at home. Wyanet hosts four veterinarians that ensure every dog can have access to healthcare.


While visiting Wyanet be sure to check out the Hennepin Canal Parkway. This awesome multi-use trail is a converted canal towpath, and a pawsome place to take your furry friend to explore. The trail is 104.5-miles long and spans across five counties in Illinois. Besides getting a great hike in, you and Fido can picnic, bike, and fish while exploring the trail. The hike will take you along the Illinois River where you and your furry friend can even snap a photo or two.

Although Wyanet doesn't offer ton of great amenities for you and Fido to do together, you both can walk around the beautiful town, enjoy the river and the beautiful scenery around you. Nearby towns like Princeton and Mineral hold great eateries and parks that you and Fido can hop in the car and visit for a lovely afternoon.

Six miles out of Wyanet is Princeton, and home to two great dog friendly restaurants that Fido can sit with you at while you enjoy a tasty meal. Kramer's Kitchen offers grilled cheese, signature hot and cold sandwiches, links, and wraps. Alexander Park Tavern is a great pub that serves chicken strips, prime rib, burgers, pork tenderloin, and steak. They have homemade dessert and sweet potato chips as well. Both of these delicious eateries offer dog friendly patios, and love when Fido joins you for your meal.

Grab Fido and spend the day exploring a new park together. The Zearing Park is six miles out of Wyanet in Princeton, and boasts a whopping 72-acres. The park includes 3 baseball fields, shaded areas, picnic and BBQ areas, a volleyball area, horse pit shoes, playground and concessions. The park also has a walking path that you and Fido can walk along, and 3-acres of a fully stocked pond with fish. If Fido loves to play on the grass, this park is filled with lush green grass where the two of you can play fetch. Don't forget your water and clean-up bags.

The Mautino State Fish and Wildlife Area is a great spot to take Fido for hiking, fishing, and all day adventures, plus it is only eight miles out of Wyanet. The park has 15 lakes where you and Fido can rent a canoe and paddle out to enjoy a nice day on the water. If you would rather keep your feet dry, then explore the numerous trails that surrounds the wildlife area. Be cautious because hunters are allowed in this area. If you and your furry friend would rather have a chill day, at the park bring a picnic basket. Don't forget to bring water and clean-up bags for Fido, and be aware that he needs to stay on leash while visiting.

Located fourteen miles out of Wyanet, Fido won't mind the car ride since he will be able to sniff and explore a new park. The park offers tons of grass space for your furry friend to play fetch on, plus a covered pavilion for shade and and nice walking path that surrounds the park. The park is covered in big beautiful trees that help provide shade. Your dog needs to stay on leash while you are visiting the park.

Eight miles out of Wyanet in Tiskilwa is the Miller-Anderson Woods Nature Preserve. This 340.1-acre park is filled with lush oak and maple-basswood trees, and unique vegetation. There are tons of trails here that you and Fido can explore together, but keep your pup on leash since there are hunters in the area. If you and Fido like to fish, there is a pond nearby to do so. You both can picnic in the area and enjoy the wildlife, plus there are bathrooms nearby for the owners. Don't forget your water and clean-up bags, as they are not available in many parts of the preserve.
