North Yachats
A walk through the Smelt Sands State Recreation Site will give you a taste of the rugged beauty Oregon is famous for. Large rocks, salty air, and majestic waves make this beach a picture perfect place to spend time with your four legged friend. He can investigate the driftwood and seashells, or dip his paws in the waves. Just keep an eye on the ocean, as this area is known for sneaky waves. You can also access the 804 Trail from this park that takes you along the rocky beach where you’ll see a variety of birds and marine life. Benches are available, so paws and gaze out at the ocean for a while.

Central Yachats
If your pup is craving some beach time, head to the Yachats State Recreation Area. Your dog can spend the afternoon hopping on the rocks, checking for tidepools, or splashing in the surf. It’s not uncommon to see salmon fishers at this beach. And, if you look closely, you may catch a glimpse of gray whales migrating. For more spectacular beach access, pop over to Yachats Ocean Road State Natural Site. Enjoy views of Yachats Bay while strolling along the sand with your pal. South Yachats
You and your pooch could literally spend hours exploring this area. Amanda’s Trail is a pawsome option for dogs that can go the distance. This out and back trail is 7.4 miles round trip, and leads you through lush vegetation to the top of Cape Perpetua. On your way, you’ll pass the stone statue of Amanda, the trail’s namesake. Cape Perpetua is captivatingly beautiful. Fur-tunately, there are plenty of trails that let you see the area up close. Be sure to follow the St. Perpetua Trail to an overlook. Snap a photo with your pooch before continuing on to Devil’s Churn or Cook’s Chasm.

Step into a mystical forest and follow the Hobbit Trail. Located in Florence, this trail is just 20 minutes south of Yachats. Your furry pal will feel like he’s walking in a mythical land with all the twisted roots, moss, and lush vegetation. The trail even passes through a pawsome tree tunnel. After a half mile you will come to Hobbit Beach. Fido can run through the surf or play fetch with some driftwood. If he’s in the mood for more hiking, follow the trail a couple more miles to the Heceta Head Lighthouse. Have a look around this quaint structure before turning back. Keep in mind that this trail can be slippery after the rain.

Heceta Beach
Head 30 minutes south of Yachats and you’ll come to the Baker Beach Trailhead. This is a great little hike for your four legged hiking buddy. Follow the trail for just under a mile to Baker Beach, an often overlooked stretch of grassy sand dunes. A couple loop trails let you explore the area, or your pal can just romp around in the ocean. Horseback riders are known to frequent the area, so keep your pup close. If she wants to continue hiking, stay on the trail for another half mile until you get to Lily Lake. Bring water to keep your pooch hydrated. No doubt she’ll have a tail waggin’ time!
