Spencer Square is located around Spencer Street and is a residential neighborhood on the east side of Bentonville, Arkansas. There is a commercial area on the north edge of the community with restaurants, a coffee house, and other services that can easily be accessed on foot by area residents. There is a larger industrial and commercial area immediately to the west on Moberly Lane. However, traffic in the area can impede pedestrians and their pets. 


The climate of Bentonville, Arkansas is congenial for walking all year with mild winter days that usually reach above the freezing point. Light winter outdoor wear is usually sufficient. Summer weather in Bentonville is very hot with temperatures frequently reaching above 80 degrees Fahrenheit.  When taking your dog for a daily walk during summer months, avoid the heat of the day by planning your excursions for early in the morning or late in the evening.

Located around Spencer Street, the Spencer Square neighborhood is a developed residential area with moderately sized homes. There are some large trees and well-developed landscaping in the community that provide shade and greenery. The neighborhood terrain is flat and there is no need to avoid hills when walking with your dog in the district.  


The Spencer Square area does not have sidewalks along residential streets and you will need to walk along roadways with your dog. Walk on the left side of the road facing traffic and keep your dog securely leashed and on the opposite side from oncoming traffic. There is a busy road and large commercial and industrial areas immediately to the west of the Spencer Square neighborhood that does not make an ideal pedestrian walking area due to traffic, noise, parking lots and pavement in the vicinity.  These areas may be avoided in favor of quieter residential roadways with lighter traffic.

Just northwest of the Spencer Square neighborhood, two large parks provide access to greenways on their properties and access to miles of greenway on connecting trails to the Razorback Regional Greenway. This greenway provides 36 miles of connecting trails in the Bentonville area that can provide hours of walking opportunities for you and your dog and access to numerous parks, schools, and sightseeing opportunities.

Memorial Park has 73 acres of developed recreational space with a pool and fountain. Sports fields, recreational facilities, basketball courts, and tennis courts are also located here with plenty to see and do for locals to peruse on a stroll through this recreational area. There are benches to take a break on a hot summer day, a restroom, and a dog station to dispose of dog waste. Orchards Park is a more passive use park with walking trails. A lighted pavilion, amphitheaters, and water features provide interesting walking destinations.
