This area has a humid, subtropical climate and experiences all four seasons. Although it is usually quite mild in the winter, cold air masses can move in, though the Ozark Mountains usually protect Bentonville from some of the more severe cold weather fronts. In the summer it can be very hot and humid. If you're out walking your dog in Summerlin you will want to be repeated for hot humid conditions in the summer by taking water along with you. In the winter be prepared for some chilly weather and bring a jacket. Summerlin may be located on the outskirts of Bentonville, but it is a short drive to the city center, where Three Dog Bakery is prepared to offer special treats for your pup.
Summerlin is surrounded by undeveloped rural property and contains a good deal of undeveloped land with creeks, trees, and open spaces. This provides great greenspace walking opportunities for residents with dogs, right in their own neighborhood. To the north is the 132 acre, Bella Vista Lake Park, which welcomes dogs and has a well-developed trail system and a beautiful lake. It even has a dog station to dispose of your dog's waste. The are picnic tables to take a break and the lake presents opportunities for your dog to take a dip if he gets hot. The well-maintained 1.8 km fitness trail provides a smooth, easy, walking opportunity, although there are plenty of open spaces and wooded areas for you and your dog to explore and less maintained trails. Bentonville has over 50 miles of park trails and 300 acres of maintained parks, and Summerlin is within easy driving distance of many of these opportunities to enjoy with your dog.
