Wag! Walkers know Granada Estates

The Granada Estates community is located just to the southeast, of central Yuma, Arizona. This makes it convenient to many services and shopping for residents and pet owners, who will find plenty of pet services in central Yuma, including veterinarians, groomers, and pet supply stores. There is a school and a recreation area just north of Granada Estates providing an excellent walking destination for you and your pet, with grounds for walking and playing with your pooch.

Most days in Yuma, Arizona are very hot. Yuma experiences an arid to semi-arid climate, and temperatures can easily soar to 100 degrees Fahrenheit or more during the summer months. With an annual average temperature of 75 degrees you never have to worry about being too cold in Granada Estates. You do have to plan walks during cooler times of the day, though, and take water and dress appropriately so as not to overheat. Plan trips where there are shady spots to take breaks for you and your pup.

What is the terrain like in Granada Estates?

Granada Estates is a developed community of multi-family residences, with duplexes set well back on residential lots that feature carports in front of homes. The area is connected by a network of sidewalks and the terrain is flat, which makes walking in the area easy and keeps pedestrians safe from traffic.

Many homes have well-developed landscaping in this established neighborhood with some residents having more cultivated yard sites with unique vegetation, including palm trees, flowering plants and shrubs, and mature trees. As is typical of arid Yuma, there is not a lot of green landscaping, as the climate does not support this type of vegetation. Because there is not a lot of shade in the community from trees, sidewalks can be hot on doggy paws. Your dog's paws can be protected with doggy boots, not just for cold weather, but also effective for protection from hot pavement! The Granada Estates area is well built up, but there is a local recreation area to the north, featuring some more natural terrain and grassy spots.

How many greenways are there in Granada Estates?

Just north of Granada Estates, the Kennedy Memorial Park can be accessed on foot or by vehicle. This recreation area and park provides 17 acres of sports venues and natural area for Granada Estates residents to enjoy with their dogs. It features a ½ mile trail, ramadas to provide shade, restrooms, picnic sites and a wading pool. Other facilities include a swimming pool, basketball courts, skateboard park, inline hockey track, volleyball courts, and horseshoe pits. If you train your dog to skate with you, both of you can enjoy the inline and skateboard facilities during the off-peak hours, when other users are not present, to skate with your dog and give him more exercise. Nearby, just a short 5-minute drive away, is a dedicated dog park with a fenced off-leash area. The park features double gates to keep off-leash dogs contained and agility equipment you can use to teach your dog some new skills. A water fountain is also available for dogs and people to keep hydrated on hot summer days.
