Green Acres is a rural residential neighborhood located on the south side of Yuma, Arizona. The community does not have any restaurants, shops, or other services within walking distance and is surrounded by rural properties.

Residents of Green Acres that walk their dogs in the region experience extreme weather in the form of high temperatures, low humidity, and dry conditions with little rainfall and lots of sun. In spring, fall, and winter, the temperatures are ideal for walking and temperatures remain warm with few rainy days. Summer months, however, can be extremely hot when temperatures frequently climb above 90 degrees Fahrenheit. The heat can be dangerous if pets and people are overexposed as dehydration and heat-related illness like sunstroke or heat stroke can occur. Avoid walking when temperatures skyrocket. Instead, choose cooler times of the day to take your dog out like early mornings and late evenings which are preferable.

This developed residential community has large properties with single-family homes, mature landscaping and shade trees, swimming pools, and lawns. The terrain in Green Acres is flat and there are no steep hills to contend with when walking with your dog. The neighborhood does not have sidewalks, however, which means residents waking in the area need to share the road with local traffic.

The pavement in Yuma can get very hot and burn your dog's paws, so ensure your pup has paw protection or avoid hot pavement on your walks. Avenue B, also referred to as Route 95, runs through the community on the west side and this is a trafficked thoroughfare which requires caution when crossing.

There is an irrigation canal a short distance to the east with natural desert areas surrounding it. Rural properties and irrigated cropland surround Green Acres, providing green fields which may be where the community gets its name from!

Green Acres residents can walk their dogs in natural areas in the region and along the canal. However, trails are not maintained, terrain can be rough, and there are hazards associated especially with the terrain around the canal. Wildlife in the area like snakes are often venomous and you should keep your dog leashed and teach your pup to avoid these animals to protect your pet.

The Bark Park is located a 13-minute drive to the northeast and provides enclosed off-leash areas, agility obstacles, a water fountain for drinking, waste disposal so you can clean up after your dog, and benches for people to watch pups play.

Ray Smucker Park is located a 6-minute drive to the north. This park has a dog station to dispose of waste and a 1-mile walking path where Yuma residents can take their dogs for a walk or a run in the Smucker Park green space.
