Brentwood is an affluent residential neighborhood, on the westside of Los Angeles, California, just northeast of Santa Monica. There are restaurants and cafes along San Vicente Boulevard and upscale shopping in exclusive boutiques in the area. Brentwood also features the popular Brentwood Farmers Market, available Saturday mornings for local residents to shop and makes a great walking destination for those who live nearby. There are many sports complexes and fields, recreation grounds, schools, and golf courses in Brentwood.

There is little difference between the seasons, with the weather almost always pleasant in Brentwood, perfect for a long stroll with Fido through this park-like neighborhood. Check with local businesses to see if they allow dogs, and you may be able to take your dog to shops and cafes as well as parks and natural areas.

Because Brentwood is nestled at the bottom of the Santa Monica Mountain foothills, properties on the northern edge of the community are more hilly.  Much of the main area of Brentwood is flat or features gently sloping terrain. This quiet neighborhood has one of the lowest population densities in southern California, with tree-lined streets and large homes. Homes often feature pools and elaborate grounds, showcasing gates, fountains, cobblestone driveways and other unique characteristics. Houses vary in architectural features and style, which provides interest for pedestrians in the Brentwood neighborhood.

The main artery, San Vicente Boulevard, is lined with colorful coral trees that put on quite the display when in bloom. There are lots of natural areas with well-spaced residential properties and commercial areas. Some areas have sidewalks with wide boulevards to provide safe walking areas for pedestrians and their pooches, but some do not and are heavily treed with winding roads. Visibility can be an issue in these areas, so be careful when walking with your dog where sidewalks are not available.

Brentwood features plenty of greenways between residences, with natural trees and bushes, and the entire area is heavily landscaped and treed, giving it a park-like feel. There is a designated dog park located in Veterans Barrington Park that has two off-leash areas for large and small dogs. It is surfaced with cedar chips for easy cleaning and pooper scoopers are available. There are many golf courses in the area and a stroll adjacent to any of these beautiful greenways is enjoyable and cooler for pedestrians and their canine walking companions. The Los Angeles National Veterans Park is also located in Brentwood. This 400-acre park has large open areas where you can play with your dog. Just remember to clean up after your pooch and be respectful of other users. The terrain in this park can be rough in some areas so wear good footwear.

If you want a trip to the beach, Santa Monica is a short 15-minute drive away.  For the more adventurous, Will Rogers State Historic Park is located in the Santa Monica Mountains to the North and features hiking trails with climbs and great views. Dogs are permitted on-leash in this park and along the adjoining Rivas Canyon Trail.
