Busy roads in Pacoima are lined with businesses and there are large shopping areas with parking lots and traffic associated with these commercial locations. Residential areas consist mostly of single-family homes and housing complexes. Houses have landscaped yards and gardens and residential areas are quieter with less traffic. The area has some flat and some hilly terrain as it covers a large area at the edge of the valley and towards the foothills of the adjacent mountains. Sections with hills can be strenuous for walking with your pooch, so make sure your walks are planned out beforehand.

Borders of the community are dominated by large freeways that include the Ronald Reagan Freeway on the north end, Foothill Freeway to the east, and Golden State Freeway to the west. These areas, along with the airport and industrial sections, are not pedestrian-friendly and should be avoided when walking with your furry friend
