Tarzana is an 8.79 square mile section of scenic California beauty located in the San Fernando Valley. Tarzana now sits where author Edgar Rice Burroughs' ranch once stood. The city's name was inspired by Burroughs' fictional jungle hero, Tarzan. You and your furry pal will have a great day walking and exploring the city streets of Tarzana together. As you walk along, you will pass both local and chain businesses along Ventura Boulevard. Why not grab a quick bite to eat with your pup at the outdoor tables? With a few different dining options, shops, and other amenities, the area can be slightly busy but makes for a nice daily outing. You will pass by Tarzana's branch of the LA Public Library located on Ventura Boulevard and many other local businesses and places of interest. Take your time, spend the day, and enjoy the sights! Just remember to keep local leash laws in mind as you walk.

The terrain of Tarzana is somewhat hilly and curvy, making it a bit more of a challenge for those who are more accustomed to flat terrain. Portions of the city lay in the valley and some are located within the Santa Monica Mountains. The city itself is generally very flat until you hit the Gateway and Topanga State Park where things can get a little tricky.  Wearing appropriate footwear may be necessary and planning your route will come in handy.

If you and your pup venture to Marvin Braude Mulholland Gateway Park, make sure to have plenty of water to stay hydrated. The park is actually 1500 acres of wilderness with both paved and unpaved trails. Be mindful of your surroundings at all times and keep track of your trail markers. Be sure to check your pup's paws for gravel, cuts, or wear after your hike!

Marvin Braude Mulholland Gateway Park connects Topanga State Park to offer 20,000 acres of open adventure for you and your furry friend to explore. You will walk by beautifully manicured lawns, lots of places to stop for a picnic or just take a rest, scenic breathtaking vistas, tons of parking, potable water, and restrooms that are available for visitors. Most of these areas will require your dog to be on a leash, but that doesn't mean that you can't enjoy the area! The park is located at the southernmost end of Reseda Boulevard with an entrance 3.2 miles south of the Ventura Freeway. This is a peaceful, serene, and beautiful place to spend a special day exploring with your pup. Keep the weather in mind, as Los Angeles can become fairly hot in the summer. With the right supplies and appropriate cautions, you and your dog can enjoy a day out and about!
