Westchester is a neighborhood on the west coast of Los Angeles, California.  The Los Angeles International Airport, Loyola University, and Otis College are all located in this coastal neighborhood. Much of the area is residential and residents traveling the community on foot with their dogs will experience beautiful sunny warm weather year round. Summers can be scorching and dry. However, the proximity to the ocean has a cooling effect in the area, making the summer heat more bearable and walking more pleasant. Even the winters are warm with little precipitation and no need to reach for a warm coat before venturing out with your playful pup. Just don't forget the sunscreen in sunny California!

Most of the area's residential streets are walkable and there is a commercial area on the main road approaching the airport with restaurants and shops where locals can walk for a bite to eat, find groceries, and go shopping without leaving the neighborhood.

There is a main thoroughfare in Westchester running north-south through the community to access the airport. Most traffic is heavy and the airport area is not pedestrian or pet-friendly. There are large properties associated with the two post-secondary institutions in the community and also the Westchester Golf Course providing large green spaces in the community. The terrain has gently sloping inclines in some areas, although these changes in elevation do not usually present a barrier to the walkability of the neighborhood as there are few steep sections.

Most homes in the area are bungalows with large yards and landscaping that make residential areas enjoyable to walk through with some shady trees, sidewalks, and grassy verges. The Pacific Ocean lies just to the west and oceanfront parks are accessible for residents with dogs on foot. Fresh ocean breezes and the sights and sounds of the ocean are just a hop, skip, and jump from the Westchester neighborhood.

The Westchester Recreation Center provides sports facilities and athletic fields as well as lawn, trees, and walking paths for area residents with pooches. The Playa Vista Sports Park also offers athletic fields and facilities in the park. There are three off-leash dog parks in the area including Bluff Creek Dog Park, Oberrieder Dog Park, and Longwood Dog Park. These parks are located along the greenway lying on the north side of Westchester that extends to the Bellona Wetland Preserve which also provides a trail along the north border of Westchester for residents with dogs to explore.

The nearby Vista Del Mar Park sits along the Pacific Ocean in adjacent Playa Del Mar, across from the Playa Del Rey and Dockweiler Beach. While dogs are not permitted on the beach, the pedestrian path along the Vista Del Mar that bypasses the park provides ocean views and cool breezes for locals with dogs to take in.
