When I was a kid, I was raised by miniature poodles, chihuahuas, a yorkie, a German shepherd/ great Dane mix, a Boston terrier, and three staffies/bully breeds. Dog Walking in Lotus

Lotus, formerly Marshall and Uniontown, is located in El Dorado County, California. The settlement was established in 1849 and named for James W. Marshall, discoverer of gold. This unincorporated community isn't the pet-friendliest place in the area, so you'll need to drive a little to sniff out some dog-friendly fun. The nearest veterinary clinic is located 14 miles away in Shingle Springs.

Sierra Rizing is the only dog-friendly establishment in Lotus, CA. This is a casual bakery and cafe that serves up a myriad of delicious items. Fido is welcome to join you at one of the eight pet-friendly outdoor tables while you enjoy your meal. One of the dog-friendly items that they feature is their peanut butter dog biscuits!

Dave Moore Nature Area has a one-mile loop trail near Lotus that features a river and is good for all skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also welcome to explore this trail but must be kept on-leash. You can also enjoy picnicking, bird-watching, hobby gold prospecting, swimming, and whitewater rafting at the park! Make sure you bring plenty of water and doggy waste bags with you to keep this area clean and enjoyable for everyone.

You and your pooch will pawsitively love exploring Lotus and its surroundings!

El Dorado Trail is only about ten miles from you. You will be delighted at what Rail- to-Trails has done with this section of the trail. The 8.5 miles of trails wind around the base of the mountains. This section includes the Weber Creek trestle, which sits 100 feet above the creek. This is an impressive view that will make you glad you have your dog on his leash. The trestle has been here since 1903. Most of it is paved to make it easier to pass along. It is a beauty to behold, so don’t forget to bring a camera along!

The Folsom Lake State Recreation Area is well worth the 20-mile drive from Lotus. It sits right at the foot of the mountains. Anything that you enjoy outside, you can enjoy here. You can bring your tent and camp out for the night. Of course, there is fishing and hiking. You will love that there are so many trails that you can come often and always find a new way to create a new adventure. There are designated swimming areas for you and your dog to enjoy together, too. Most areas require Fido to stay on his leash, but there are a few spots where he can play off his leash if you have taught him to respond to voice commands.

In about 25 miles, you can get to the Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail in Orangevale. This two-lane, paved trail runs through Orangevale, Sacramento, and Carmichael. You can easily travel a section it with your dog, as long as he stays on leash. There are bathrooms and water fountains along the way, so don’t worry if you forgot to bring water with you. You will need to bring some doggie waste bags, though. No one likes a litterbug! The best part is that you can even find a spot to swim in the American River along the trail, although this is located at the opposite end of the American River Trail system.

You can find a great walking and bike trail just 25 miles from you. The American River Bike Trail runs 35 miles along the American River. It is perfect because it is a two-lane path that’s completely paved so you can enjoy it easily. There are mile markers, water fountains, and even restrooms along the trails. You will want to visit often because each time you visit you will find something new to see and smell.
