Saint Elizabeth is on the southeast side of Oakland, California, just below San Antonio. It is bordered by Jefferson to the east, Oak Tree to the west, and Fruitvale to the south. This neighborhood is primarily residential with businesses clustered along East 14th Street and a little bit on Foothill Boulevard. There are lots of great Mexican restaurants among the cluster of small businesses in this area, but most places do not provide outside seating.

Along Foothill Boulevard, you can find the Rocket Dog Rescue where you may find your new best friend or have an opportunity to volunteer with dogs in need. Angels Dog and Cat Grooming is also along Foothill and can provide great grooming for your pets! Canon Dog Training can get your dog over any behavioral issues they may be struggling with but if you have a smaller dog, Little Paws Big Adventures Dog Trainer may be the right fit for them.

Saint Elizabeth is a residential neighborhood with an eclectic mix of homes along the relatively flat terrain. Houses tend to be small, set back behind tiny fenced front yards. These little homes have lots of architectural details and interesting siding. The Spanish style architecture with arched doors and little patios is not uncommon and neither are simple wood frame homes with sun windows at the front. Nearly every yard is fenced and there is no divider between the sidewalk and the busy roads, so you will walk your dog on a relatively close leash throughout most of Saint Elizabeth.

Cesar Chavez park offers a change from the neighborhood walking and is a funky playful little park with a highly colorful playground area and pleasant seating. If you are looking for more varied walking, you can also head towards the Tidal Canal. A sidewalk runs along the rocky shoreline for many miles here.

There are a couple of little regional parks in and around Saint Elizabeth where you can stretch your legs. Just across Fruitvale Avenue, Josie De La Cruz Park offers a nice grassy area and tree cover as well as ballparks. The Sausal Creek extends up from this park for many miles and is not a designated natural area, but there is more shade and shoreline along this waterway. You can follow it up several miles to the Austin Square.

Homes back up to this creek, so you will need to be very careful that you do not wander onto private property if you are exploring. You can also walk along the Tidal Canal, but there is minimal tree cover here. If you follow the canal all the way down to the San Leandro Bay, you can find all of the more space to roam including a marshy area which extends down the coast of the bay.
