Bernal Heights is a lovely neighborhood in southeastern San Francisco. It lies just south of San Francisco's Mission District and is bounded by Cesar Chavez Street to the north and the I-280 to the south. It is easily distinguishable by the large rocky hill and radio tower atop Bernal Heights Summit. The neighborhood's community is diverse, lively, and warm while also being safe, well-kept, and much loved by its residents. It is not hard to see why many love this area so much!
From Saint Mary's playground to Holly Park to Bernal Heights Park, for a relatively small neighborhood, it offers lots of green spaces. There are so many options! Your dog will love challenging walks in Bernal Heights Park and Holly Park. Precita Park is another lovely spot to take your pup to blow off some steam. It is pet-friendly and its 2-acres offer picnicking facilities, a cafe and gardens.
Bernal Heights is largely a residential neighborhood. It does, however, have a commercial avenue located along Cortland Avenue which features an array of great restaurants, cafes, and bars. The area has a great atmosphere and is greatly valued by neighboring residents.
The area, in keeping with the terrain across San Francisco, is hilly. Walking around this neighborhood is challenging but rewarding. You and your pup will be put through your paces but spectacular views across San Francisco make the hard work very worth it. Residents of this area are active and enjoy an outdoor lifestyle considering nature is never far away in Bernal Heights. To the east lies the San Francisco Bay and to the west, Glen Canyon Park.
Bernal Heights' iconic Bernal Heights Summit is an important part of the neighborhood with a very interesting history. The area's unique ecosystem makes it a lovely spot to go for a walk!
The Bernal Heights neighborhood is populated by numerous green spaces with lots more located just outside. There are so many opportunities for adventure for you and your pup. Bernal Heights Park is the area's foremost green space. It is a hillside park offering sweeping views of the city and features lush grassland, diverse wildlife, and walking trails. It offers a great escape from the bustle of city life. With lots of space, it is the perfect spot to blow off some steam.
Precita Park is a much smaller area but also has lots to offer. This pet-friendly area totals 2-acres and has a butterfly garden, gated playground, and picnicking facilities. The park is a firm family favorite and it is not hard to see why!
Looking slightly further afield, Glen Canyon Park lies to the west of Bernal Heights. This large park is the perfect spot for a game of throw and fetch. With so many options, you'll never run out of places to visit!
