Forest Knolls is a neighborhood just south of Golden Gate Park and the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood in San Francisco, California. The residential communities in Forest Knolls are a combination of standalone, single-family homes, and small apartment complexes. The commercial area of Forest Knolls is home to the Parnassus Campus of the University of California San Francisco, UCSF Medical Center, and their accompanying retailers like coffee shops and small restaurants. Finally, a large majority of Forest Knolls is actually a large greenway composed of Mt. Sutro Open Space Reserve and the Interior Greenbelt.

San Francisco, like the rest of the California coast, has a mild climate, so Forest Knolls will experience few shifts in temperatures. However, it does get chilly during the evenings or when the breeze from the Pacific Ocean comes in strong, so make sure you grab a sweater before you head out for your daily walk with your pup!

Like most of San Francisco, Forest Knolls is rather hilly. Mt. Sutro Open Space Reserve even boasts a 900-foot elevation difference throughout the greenway! Even the residential areas are quite steep, so you and your pup are guaranteed a good workout. Furthermore, Forest Knolls has a great balance of natural and artificial terrain. You can leave the residential community, but still explore the five miles of natural trails in the neighborhood's large greenway! The residential communities also have sidewalks, so you and your pup don't need to share the roadway with cars and other traffic.

Forest Knolls is bordered by Corona Heights, Twin Peaks, and Midtown Terrace to the east, Midtown Terrace and Forest Hills to the south, Golden Gate Heights and Inner Sunset to the west, and Inner Sunset and Cole Valley to the north. Seventh Avenue and Clarendon Avenue are popular roadways, so pedestrians may want to avoid them while walking.

A large majority of Forest Knolls is actually a large greenway composed of Mt. Sutro Open Space Reserve and the Interior Greenbelt. Mt. Sutro Open Space Reserve, a 61-acre park, has more than five miles of hiking and walking trails. This park is open to dogs, but they must remain on their leash at all times. There are also several trailheads, so there is access to these trails throughout Forest Knolls. The Interior Greenbelt is connected to Mt. Sutro Open Space Reserve and is home to its own walking and hiking trails and Woodland Creek. Forest Knolls is also home to White Crane Springs and the Garden for the Environment.

Twin Peaks and Golden Gate Park are also only a short walk away if you and your pup are in need of a bit more exercise for the day. Unfortunately, there are no off-leash areas in Forest Knolls, so remember to be courteous and keep your pup secure.
