The Lower Pacific Heights is also known as Upper Fillmore and is located between Pacific Heights, Laurel Heights, the Fillmore District, and Japantown. The term 'Upper Fillmore' has come into use more for this neighborhood as it has become more upscale in the 1980s. This small rectangular neighborhood is a mix between residential and business districts, with most of the businesses clustering near the southwest, especially along Geary Boulevard and Bush Street.

There are several businesses catering to your dog within and near Lower Pacific Heights. The Russian Hill Dog Grooming Express offers fast and excellent grooming while Kate's Cat and Dog Salon, just south of Lower Pacific Heights, is a great place if you also have a cat. Further north, Le Marcel Bakery for Dogs offers all natural and handmade goodies for your pup while The Superdog Trainer of San Francisco can get your dog behaving if they are having obedience troubles.

The homes in Lower Pacific Heights are beautiful townhomes of two or three stories that are spaced flush together. Arched entryways and bay windows are the norm along with other Victorian details and features, but some buildings are also more modern in appearance. All of the buildings tend to face out directly on the sidewalk with only stoops and no yards. The young and irregular tree cover throughout most of the area does not provide much shade on the persistent asphalt on hot days.

While this is a beautiful walk, it is best for shorter periods when you are working at keeping your dog on a close leash and it is not a good neighborhood for biking or skateboarding. Several regional parks in the area offer you a chance to get away from the city streets. Just northeast of Lower Pacific Heights, there is lots of natural area around Presidio.

There are several regional parks around Lower Pacific Heights where you can let your dog stretch their legs. The Alta Plaza Park has paths running through grassy fields, few shrubs, and small trees. Lafayette Park is slightly more extensive with some mature tree cover and lovely landscaping. Further south, the Jefferson Square Park is, in fact, rectangular and has some nice paths through the grass to enjoy.

For more extensive natural areas, you can head towards Presidio. The El Poland Spring is a beautiful historic landmark and has an ecology trail running around it that is a perfect place for a quiet walk with your pup. The trail runs through open grassland and into forest, around a cluster of buildings that are obscured by the trees, and onto the trail called Lovers Lane that winds through a gorgeous old forest. Remember to keep your pup on a leash throughout this area so that they don't wander off.
