Merced Heights and the rest of San Francisco has a mild climate. Summers are usually dry, while the winter months generally experience more rainfall. Merced Heights is a hilly neighborhood but is nowhere near as steep or hilly as the rest of San Francisco. However, you will experience a gradual increase or decrease in elevation as you move throughout this small, residential neighborhood which can mean that elderly pups will need shorter, less strenuous walks. Additionally, Merced Heights has a largely artificial terrain with a few greenways to balance out the urban environment. Thankfully, this neighborhood does have plenty of sidewalks, so you and your pup should feel relatively safe and should not have to fight against neighborhood traffic.

The boundaries of Merced Heights include Holloway Avenue to the north, Orizaba Avenue to the east, Sargent Street to the south, and Junipero Serra Boulevard to the west. Junipero Serra Boulevard is the roadway with the most traffic, so you and your pup may want to avoid that area if the sound of cars is a little noisy or scary.
