Midtown Terrace is centrally located in San Francisco, California. This suburban residential neighborhood in the heart of San Francisco has a school, church, and fire station but no businesses like restaurants or shops that can be accessed on foot. There is a hospital in the southwest section of the neighborhood, however, other services must be accessed by vehicle.

Residents that choose to walk their dogs in this area experience pleasant walking weather, spring, summer, fall, and winter. Midtown Terrace has a warm Mediterranean climate and does not experience cold temperatures. Rain and stormy weather is not a common occurrence here, and most of the year conditions are pleasant for walking. Foggy San Francisco days do not usually affect this inland, elevated community and visibility is ideal for hiking the neighborhood with your hound compared to lower coastal locations. Pedestrians with pets may not be able to access commercial areas, but they can experience beautiful natural areas that surround the community.

Streets in Midtown Terrace are, like the name implies, terraced to accommodate the elevated terrain that climbs up towards Twin Peaks in the east. Most homes are mid-century modern in architecture and surrounded by green spaces and natural areas and reservoirs. The area has a country suburban feel even though it is located geographically in the center of San Francisco. The community occupies 150 acres and is approximately 50 years old which is new by San Francisco standards. The terrain is hilly, however, terraced streets make it easier to walk by providing more gradually inclined routes across the hilly landscape. Views from the community on a clear day are expansive and the Twin Peaks Park located here provides spectacular 360-degree views of the city. A 980-foot broadcasting tower is highly visible in the region and is considered an eyesore by many, however it has become somewhat of a landmark visible for many miles.

Midtown Terrace is surrounded by undeveloped natural areas. Built on the west slopes of the Twin Peaks, this natural area reaches 922 feet in elevation and provides 64 acres of natural habitat for wildlife and native plant species. Hikers adventurous and fit enough to climb its heights are treated to spectacular views. Wildlife in the area includes coyotes, raccoons, and skunks. Keep your dog leashed so he does not run afoul of local critters.

Mount Sutro is densely forested and located within walking distance of Midtown Terrace. This natural area and the reserve contain eucalyptus forest in a 19-acre area referred to as the Interior Green Belt and there are many trails and greenways through this beautiful forest. Stay on trails to help maintain this ecologically sensitive area. If you are looking for a tamer greenway in the region, Midtown Terrace Playground provides play structures, lawns, and trees with paved pedestrian paths on more moderate terrain.
