San Francisco, and therefore Polk Gulch, has a rather mild climate. This means you will likely not experience freezing cold or sweltering hot temperatures in the neighborhood. Generally, average temperatures will range from 50-80°F and you will likely experience a nice, cool breeze coming off the Pacific Ocean! San Francisco usually experiences most of its rainfall in the winter months, while the summer months remain relatively dry, so you should be able to predict when it is going to rain fairly easily.
Polk Gulch is a completely artificial neighborhood with no greenways within the neighborhood's borders. Additionally, like the rest of San Francisco, Polk Gulch does rest on an incline which could be a little bit intimidating if you're just starting out with your daily walks. As you move from north to south in this neighborhood, you will experience a noticeable incline, but nothing too steep or strenuous for you and your furry friend! Thankfully, the neighborhood does have a well-maintained sidewalk, so you and your pup do not have to compete for space with high-speed or congested traffic, keeping you both safe during your walk.Polk Gulch is bordered by Union Street to the north, Larkin Street to the east, Geary Street to the south, and Van Ness Avenue to the west. Polk Street, the heart of this small neighborhood, runs straight through the middle of Polk Gulch from north to south.
Polk Gulch is located three to four miles away from Golden Gate Park and Presidio, two of the largest greenways in San Francisco. Both areas offer many more walking trails to choose from and even a few dog-friendly off-leash areas which can be great for socialization and interaction with other dogs and dog owners. Golden Gate Park offers 1000 acres of grounds to explore and walk on, so you'll never be short of space to wander!
