Silver Terrace is a residential neighborhood on the eastern side of San Francisco, California. It is surrounded by the neighborhoods of Portola Place to the south, bordered by Bayshore Avenue and Newhall Street. Newhall Street continues up its eastern border which creates the boundary between the Bayview Area. Oakdale Avenue makes up the northern edge where Silver Terrace meets India Basin. The John F. Foran Freeway is situated on its northwestern edge.

The Silver Terrace area itself doesn’t have many services that are specifically for pets and dogs. However, there are lots in the surrounding areas that are easy to get to. Primal Pet Foods is situated on McKinnon Avenue just north of Silver Terrace while Ace Dog Sports can be found nearby on Toland Place. Bernal Beast can be found to the west in Bernal Heights, providing you with organic and natural pet foods, as well as a grooming service.

There’s no doubt that San Francisco is a notoriously hilly area with steep slopes that can often cause a problem for some of the least fit residents. Silver Terrace is no different, as the neighborhood is set on a fairly steep slope. This provides the area with some quite nice views, but you may want to plan your walk in advance if your fitness levels are limited. If your pooch has small legs, please remember that these slopes will be even more of a struggle for them than it is for you. Make sure you bring water for the hottest parts of the day if it is a particularly warm time of year.

Silver Terrace is a residential area primarily made up of houses, road, and sidewalks. This means that almost all of the terrain is artificial. You’ll have to go a little further outside of the neighborhood if you want something more natural and wild.

Silver Terrace does not have many greenways that are large and natural. In fact, it is very limited in that department. There is a small park called the Palou and Phelps Mini Park in the northeastern section, just off Palou Avenue. It has paths and green space for dog walkers, as well as climbing equipment for children. On the other side of the neighborhood, you have the Silver Terrace Playground. This consists of a number of playing fields, play equipment, and pathways.

For something a little larger, you can head to Bernal Heights Park in the northwest. This will provide you with many more walking trails while remaining close to the neighborhood itself. On the eastern side by the shoreline, you’ll find North Shore Yosemite Park that will provide views of the Bay. These greenways will give you the chance to escape from city life and for your pooch to roam off the leash.
