This quaint mountain town just outside of Lake Tahoe offers all kinds of trails for all kinds of walks in the beauty of the mountains. This canine-loving town has all the amenities, from a paved trail that is plowed in the winter for year-round use to a dog-friendly lift ride to reach incredible views above 6,000ft.

If your dog loves to run and play, Truckee is one of the best places to let him off-leash and let loose for a mountain romp. Of course, it is important to keep control of your dog at all times to keep him from chasing wildlife or getting into trouble. Whether you want a peaceful stroll through the mountains or a heart-pounding run up a challenging trail, you can find that in Truckee. It's the perfect place for dogs and their people too.

The town has established several miles of multi-use walking and biking trails that follow along the Truckee River and offer non-motorized travel for commuters and recreationists. Though this trail system is mostly paved, it still has several challenging hills.

The trail system that surrounds Truckee will get you out into an incredible wilderness, and will surely make your heart pound. Most of these trails are maintained by the forest service and are dirt paths with plenty of natural obstacles including rocks, roots, rivers, and wildlife. Make sure you bring a map, plenty of water and snacks for you and your dog, and wear appropriate footwear and gear. You'll never know what you might encounter, so always be prepared and watch the local weather reports.
