The neighborhood of Windsor in Denver is a new development that is comprised mainly of apartment buildings with a few single-family homes. The area is affordable, so it is home to a lot of young professionals, however, there is an adult community here as well.

Close to Denver, it offers an easy commute. There is a fair amount of shopping in the area, a lot of which is within walking distance. On your walks, you will find plenty of restaurants, some convenience stores, and even a large market or two. This area of Denver is generally very pet-friendly and, although you will not find a pet store within the bounds of Windsor, the closest amenities for your spoiled pooch are only a few minutes away.

Weather is unlikely to hold you back, except perhaps in the winter when snow is common. The area is generally arid in its climate, so spring through fall, you can expect clear walking weather.

If you are looking for a serious workout for yourself, your walks might disappoint you. While there are a few minor elevation changes along the streets of Windsor, the area is primarily flat and won’t do a lot to increase your fitness if you have been working out already.

On the other hand, if you are just starting out and wanting to improve both your fitness and Fido’s, then you will find the streets of this neighborhood quite accommodating. The sidewalks on the main roads are great for walking with wide sidewalks and grassy shoulders. But if you live in one of the residential areas, you may find yourself walking on the road part of the time since the sidewalks are narrow and not always easily accessible.

Fortunately, like so many other neighborhoods in this region, you also have access to the trail system which increases your possibilities for good walks considerably.

While many of the apartment complexes in the area have greenways for their residents to enjoy, for those in smaller apartments or single-family homes, the access to parks within the neighborhood is somewhat limited.

What residents do have access to is the Highline Canal Trail which is surrounded by greenways on both sides. The trail cuts through the Windsor neighborhood, offering access to most of its residents. Part of its length runs along Windsor Lake and the trail also runs outside the neighborhood, offering access to other greenways.

Expo Park is just outside of Windsor and offers even more trails and grass, making it a good destination in and of itself. Expo Park also has two small lakes that may offer a respite from the summer heat. Residents are also not far from Kennedy Park and Cherry Creek State Park which make good destinations. Kennedy Park has a fenced in dog park and the state park has an off-leash area as well as a multitude of trails.
