Barnaby Woods is a suburban neighborhood outside of Washington, D.C. and, as such, is largely artificial terrain. However, a park with some natural walking trails add some natural terrain to the area. Unfortunately, sidewalks are only found sporadically throughout Barnaby Woods, so you and your pup will frequently need to share the roadways with other pedestrians, cyclists, and any oncoming traffic. Please be sure to always be aware of your surroundings and keep a tight hold on your furry friend!

Additionally, Barnaby Woods is a rather hilly neighborhood, so you and Fido will definitely get a good workout in while exploring. If you have an older or less mobile pup, you may need to consider planning out your route. 

The boundaries of Barnaby Woods include Pinehurst Parkway Park to the north, Oregon Avenue and Rock Creek Park to the east, Tennyson Street to the south, and Western Avenue to the west. Western Avenue is also the Maryland-Washington, D.C. border.

Unfortunately, there is only one greenway located in Barnaby Woods. Pinehurst Parkway Park is a small greenway that is connected to the larger Rock Creek Park, located immediately to the east of the neighborhood. Thankfully, this park has a nice natural walking trail for you and your furry friend to use. 

Additionally, Pinehurst Parkway Park connects to the larger Rock Creek Park which is owned and operated by the U.S. National Park Service. The walking trail connects to many more miles of trails, so there are endless possible trails for you and Fido to explore! Rock Creek Park itself is a 1,700-acre park with access to water recreation, a dog park, walking and running trails, trails for horseback riders, a golf course, and several historical landmarks. 

Other nearby parks include Chevy Chase Local Park, Lafayette Recreation Center, Francis G. Newlands Park, Chevy Case Circle, and Meadowbrook Local Park.
