Sitting midway between the Atlantic coast and North Atlantic Avenue are the Jefferson Townhomes, consisting of four integrated homes. As a residential area, the housing spaces are a blend of small condos, townhouses, and single-family homes. Being in the middle of the area helps keep things a little more peaceful than in many other spots in town. Living here also puts you two blocks from the City Center Park complex that covers two full blocks.
While the area might be peaceful, the one thing it doesn't have is much in the way of shopping or dining opportunities. There are a couple of convenience stores and a restaurant or two, but not much else. Here in Cape Canaveral, the best shopping can be found on the West Cocoa Beach Causeway. You can also find a Winn-Dixie supermarket, a small shopping center, and several restaurants. If you take the causeway over to Merritt Island, there is even a Walmart Supercenter and the Merritt Island Mall.
Living in a residential area means dealing with morning and afternoon rush hours all year long and those big yellow buses during the school year. Although most of the streets have sidewalks, you and your dog may want to avoid going for walks during these times of the day. The best time of day to take your walks together is early in the morning before rush hour. Not only will there be far less traffic, but during the summer months, the temperatures are much cooler and enjoyable.
When walking your dog in a residential neighborhood, you should always keep your dog on a short leash. You never know when you might run into kids at play, moms with strollers, or little ones toddling along beside them. With such flat terrain in this area making it easy for most people to get out and about, you're sure to pass by quite a few others taking their own walks in the region.
With the beach off-limits to dogs, the city passed an ordinance in 2018 that allows dog owners to walk their pups in the parks if they are on leashes. In an effort to convince more people to use the parks and keep them clean, the city has installed pet waste bag dispensers and waste receptacles. Be sure you do your part as a responsible dog owner and clean up after your pooch!
There are several parks of varying sizes in Cape Canaveral, but the only one within walking distance is the tri-park complex, consisting of the Cape Canaveral Baseball Park, the City Center Park, and Sandpiper Park. All three parks cover two square blocks in the heart of town and have plenty of room for you and your dog to romp around on. The City Center Park hosts a number of events each year, including several pet-specific events with lots of activities and fun stuff to see.
