South Orlando Avenue runs from Minuteman Causeway to the south where it connects to South Atlantic Avenue. On its way through town, this road passes from the city offices in Downtown Cocoa Beach to numerous residential areas, condo communities, apartments, and townhouses. No matter where you are along South Orlando Avenue, you are never more than two blocks from the beach.

For shopping options, you have to be on the Minuteman Causeway. Here, you will find several local restaurants and two different supermarkets where you can find food for everyone in the house. If you need a larger store or the nearest Walmart, it's only a short drive further north to the West Cocoa Beach Causeway. There are more stores here and on the other side of the causeway over the Banana River and into Merritt Island. On the island, you will find a mall and Walmart Supercenter where you can find just about anything you are likely to need!

While the terrain might vary from heavily paved in the downtown area to residential as you go further south, South Orlando Avenue is a bustling thoroughfare. Much like the other half of A1A, South Atlantic Avenue traffic tends to flow along this road virtually around the clock. However, like its partner, South Orlando really comes to life when morning rush hour starts and stays bustling all day long.

While there are sidewalks for you and your dog to use along this busy road, you may find it better to take your pooch for walks on the east side of South Atlantic as there is a wide paved pathway that runs for miles in either direction. One thing to keep in mind is that a short leash is your best option for safety in this area! Though there are no steep treks in this region, the neighborhood can still get pretty unsafe, especially when traffic is at its height.

If you live at the northern end of South Atlantic Avenue, you are never more than a five-minute walk from the largest "green" space in town. Here in Cocoa Beach, canine companions are permitted on most areas of the sandy dunes from 6 to 10 AM and 5 to 7PM. The city does require that you keep your dog on a leash and, since there are pet waste disposal containers at each public entrance to the beach, be sure you use them.

The only park in the southern half of town is on Ramp Road. Aptly named the Ramp Road Park, this park has two playgrounds, multiple tennis and basketball courts, and plenty of grass for you and your dog to run about on. Your dog must be on a leash and you must clean up after them to enjoy this open area, but you should be able to enjoy this park year round!
