Ackley is a large community of single-family homes surrounding a vast apartment complex on Clearlake Road. There is only one entrance from Clearlake, Ollie Street, which helps to keep the amount of drive-through traffic you and your dog must deal with to a minimum. Interestingly enough, the neighborhood is divided into two zones with Crescent Drive joining them together. The yards here a more than big enough to support having a family dog as well as giving your kids a safe place to play.

From your home in Ackley, you can walk to Harvey's Supermarket, where you should be able to find most of the items on your grocery list, including food and treats for your four-legged friend. On the north side of Dixon Boulevard, there is a Walgreens you can walk to if you need a pharmacy or personal care needs. If low-price grocery shopping is more to your tastes, Dixon Boulevard is also home to a Sav-a-Lot.

Ackley is an outstanding place to raise a family. The homes are modest in size and have plenty of yard space for your kids and dog to play in. The one thing missing here is anything in the way of sidewalks. Having no sidewalks means that you are stuck walking on the roads running through the community.

Despite the fact that there are plenty of houses in the region, traffic is not excessive. Rush hour can be slightly sticky, but they go quickly and provide more that enough opportunities to get in those important daily walks.

The best time of day to take your pup out and about is in the early morning hours before rush hour traffic starts to kick in. Not only will you have less traffic to deal with, but after the long night, the air and sidewalks will be much cooler, making for a far more enjoyable stroll together.

When it comes to green space, you don't have far to go. To the west, there is a vast area of woods with small lakes and trails running through it. You and your pooch can take your walks along the paths and in the cooling shade of the dense forest canopy. One thing to keep in mind is that these woods are part of a much larger forest and you never know what type of wildlife the two of you might come across. Be sure you keep a close eye out for any signs of alligators as they don't mix well with people or dogs!

The nearest off-leash dog park is Barks and Recreation on Pluckebaum Road. This park has a vast fenced-in play area for playful pups that is split into zones for large and small breeds along with doggy water fountains and plenty of shade for everyone to enjoy!
