Emerald Lake is a sizeable mobile home community located on Sharpes Lake Drive off of Canaveral Groves Boulevard and far to the west of the central part of town. The homes here enjoy larger than average lots in a well-kept park that is surrounded on three sides by undeveloped lands. Living out in this region feels as though you are a million miles from anywhere and it's easy to understand why. The area is far enough from the city and the interstate to not be affected by traffic noise.

However, there is a downside to living out here. You must drive back into town for essential amenities such a pharmacy, grocery stores, and places to buy supplies for the four-legged member of your family. The nearest Walmart Supercenter is ten minutes south of you and, if you go to US-1 and turn north, there is a Publix and a Winn-Dixie supermarket within ten minutes. Both require small commutes.

Living at Emerald Lake is almost like having a home in the country with few close neighbors. As a working community, there is a small amount of traffic during the weekday rush hours for you and your pooch to avoid. There are no sidewalks in the community, but as long as you keep your dog on a short leash, you should be safe. One way to avoid this situation is to take your walks early in the morning, before rush hour begins.

Another issue you will have to deal with beyond the flat ground is the number of children playing in the area. Emerald Lake is a family community, meaning that you and your dog are likely to encounter several kids of all ages during your walks. Be sure you keep your dog on a short leash. Your dog is sure to love the attention and kids always love the chance to pet a dog. It's a win-win situation for everyone!

Emerald Lake might not have a lake, but the entire community sits amid a vast area of scrub and woods. This, of course, means that you and your dog should have all the "wilderness" you need to explore. With a little looking around, the two of you should have no problem finding lots of trails running deep into the woods. If you are up for it, you can hike to Sharpes Lake to the east.

If you are looking for an off-leash dog park, the nearest one is about 5.6 miles away. Fay Lake Wilderness Park and Off-Leash Dog Park is on the other side of I-95 on Golfview Avenue. The park is divided into two runs: one for large breeds and one for the little guys. The rest of the park has hiking trails the two of you can use and playgrounds for children. There is plenty of water and shade for the dogs and plenty of places for dog owners to sit!
