Lundy Heights is home to the City of Cocoa Water Reclamation Facility, which is not the best place to take your dog for a walk. However, with people still making  use of these industrial spaces and the residential neighborhoods on the east side of North Cocoa Boulevard, knowing where to walk your dog can come in handy in this region of the city.

For example, this is a commercial and light industrial area of the town with little in the way of amenities within walking distance. However, there is a Walmart Supercenter ten minutes north on US-1 where you can find just about anything you need for every member of your family. There is one restaurant within walking distance that comes highly recommended. Papasan's Vietnamese Café serves a fantastic array of Vietnamese dishes including Phở to die for. They offer a range of vegan dishes along with excellent service in a friendly, welcoming environment.

Lundy Heights sits along one of the busiest highways in town: US-1. What you may not know is that this highway starts far to the north at Fort Kent in Maine and runs down the entire length of the east coast until it reaches Key West. About the only time of day when traffic is not bustling along is during the wee hours of the morning and, even then, you should expect at least some traffic.

While both sides of the highway have sidewalks, unless your pooch is used to walking close to busy traffic, you should stick to walking the backstreets such as Taft Avenue. While this roadway doesn't have any sidewalks, is certainly quieter to stroll along than US-1. If you decide to walk your pup along the highway, be sure you use a short leash as this allows you to maintain better control in case your pup is startled.

Within walking distance, the only green spaces are vacant lots, most of which are privately owned. The nearest park is less than ten minutes away. Cocoa Riverfront Park offers a broad area of grass for the two of you to romp around on and a walking path that runs along the waterfront. You can also walk on the grass on the east side of Harrison Street and follow it to Lee Werner Park where there is more grass, a walking path, and a fishing dock out into the Indian River.

If you take the causeway over both the Indian and the Banana rivers, you and your pup can be on the sands of Cocoa Beach in less than 20 minutes. If you plan to walk in this region, be sure you are in the areas where pups are permitted. The beaches are open to dogs during select hours of the day, but early mornings are the best time to go walking in the summer before it starts getting hot.
