The community of Shepards Cocoa Casbah runs along South Fiske Boulevard and Donley Street, a short distance south of West King Road. Most of the neighborhood is given over to single-family housing, with a few empty business buildings at the southern end. Fiske Road is a bustling road during the day, but the rest of the area is relatively tranquil. To the east is a vast area of grass and the Emma Jewel Charter Academy.

For basic grocery needs, you can walk to the Fiske Grocery Store, but unless your dog is a service animal, you cannot take them into the store itself. If you need something a little more substantial, there is a Publix Supermarket less than ten minutes to the south on US-1 and a Walmart Supercenter ten minutes to the north on Clearlake Road where you can find everything your family needs.

Shepards Cocoa Casbah happens to be one of the few neighborhoods in town where sidewalks are part of the scenery. You and your pooch are sure to appreciate not having to walk on the roads as traffic can be pretty hectic during rush hours. Speaking of traffic, Donley Street is a cul-de-sac, so those who live along it will have very little to deal with at any part of the day.

Without any hills to add challenge to your walks, the only other option you have is to go for distance. In the communities on the west side of Fiske Road, there are several blocks of residences, all of which have sidewalks nearby for the two of you to use. While there are residential neighborhoods to the east you could also enjoy, many of them seem to lack sidewalks, leaving you with little choice but to walk on the streets.

Directly to the east of the neighborhood is a vast area of grass separating it from the school. You and your dog can use this area for walking and play time, but keep your dog on a leash and clean up any messes they make.

The nearest parks are where the Hubert Humphrey Causeway begins to cross the Indian River. Instead of one park, there are three, including Taylor Park, which has a playground, Cocoa Riverfront Park with its boardwalk and vast areas of grass, and Lee Wenner Park with its public boat ramps and plenty of grass.

A five-minute drive down to Pluckebaum Road is the Barks and Recreation dog park. The dog park is part of a vast area of grass and a waterfront. You and your dog can walk around the lake and then head into the appropriate section of the dog park where your pup can run around while you can relax in the shade.
