Mardel Beach offers a great neighborhood packed in between the serene Halifax River and the lapping waves of the Atlantic Ocean. The majority of the homes here are newer three-bedroom homes. While some areas of the community have sidewalks, not all of them do, so be aware that you should walk towards the traffic for your own safety. There are dog-friendly parks within driving distance as well as pet supply stores. Being one-half block from the beach, there are also several excellent restaurants along the A1A worth checking out. Keep in mind that the A1A is a bustling beachside highway and extra care must be taken as you walk along it with your dog or try to cross it.
Winters here are amazing with temperatures in the 40s and no sign of snow. Summers can be brutal with temperatures in the 90s and humidity levels hovering around 95 percent or more.
What is the terrain like in Mardel Beach?
Like most of the area along beachside, the terrain here is very flat, with the exception of the beach itself. Walking your dog here can be a bit mundane unless you know how to be creative or don't mind hitting the highway and heading up north on the A1A to Tomoka State Park. Of course, you can simply walk around the block a few times, choose different blocks to walk around, change the times of day, or anything to make your walks different. You can also take your pooch over to the beach and check out the sand and surf.
No matter where you choose to take your hound for a walk, remember that when the outside temperature is above 75°F, the pavement can be above 120°F. Be cautious when walking with your pup and remember to protect their feet at all times from the potentially blistering heat of the day.
How many greenways are there in Mardel Beach?
Although there are two small parks in walking distance, only the Beachcomber Park allows dogs. A little further down the road is Frank Rendon Park which gives you direct access to the beach. If you want more greenway, you can cruise down to the Ponce Preserve East. Here, you will find 41 acres of parkland stretching from the Atlantic Ocean all the way to the Halifax River. You and your pooch can take the trails running all the way from the beach to the river. The preserve offers picnic areas, a playground, fishing, restrooms, and more.
Further to the south is the Smyrna Dunes Park covering 73 acres of unspoiled ground that is accessible from land as well as from the Halifax River. The park covers five different ecosystems including river, ocean, scrub zone, dunes, and saltwater marsh. You and your pup are welcome here as long as you have them on a leash!
