Living in Mason Hills puts you in between Cedar Highlands Park and Derbyshire Park with Mason Avenue running right past it. The neighborhood is an oddly shaped community of single-family homes.

While it might be an odd shape, there is plenty of room for you to stretch your legs. Beyond the two small parks, you will have to drive a bit to find a dog park or a large area of green to play in. If you like to eat out, there are a few fast-food joints along Nova Road or you can drive over the river to the beachside where you will find a number of excellent dining options.

Living here means fantastic hot summers with temperatures in the 90s, but with humidity levels above 90% at the same time. Keep in mind that dogs do not sweat, so be sure you take Fido out for walks early in the morning before it gets too hot.

According to the ASPCA, when a paved surface like the streets or sidewalks is exposed to direct sunlight and the outside temperature is above 80 degrees, the surface can be over 135 degrees. Hot pavement like this can cause discomfort and injury to sensitive puppy paws. This is a good reason to take your dog out for their walks early in the morning before things start heating up.

The ground here is relatively flat and could lead to some pretty boring walks, but only if you let it. You can walk your dog around the different blocks, go different directions, and add in the trails in Cedar Highlands Park. Keep in mind that your dog's walks are about getting plenty of exercise and you can always substitute distance for more challenging terrain. You just have to go further to achieve similar results. Think of your walks as more bonding time together!

Cedar Highlands Park is large park covered by dense woods with trails for you and your dog to explore, providing opportunities a little closer to getting back to nature. Alternatively, Derbyshire Park is an urban sports park with tennis and basketball courts, baseball fields, and large areas of grass to use.

Keep in mind that your dog should always be on a leash in these parks and should be frequently cleaned up after during your walks. This can help keep the areas clean for others to enjoy.

Your last option is, of course, the beach! The coastline has plenty of space for running, jogging, and walking along the water at your dog's side. You get to take the soft sand on the way out to give those leg muscles a major workout and then play around in the surf on the way back. It just doesn't get any better than this!
