Biscayne Gardens is a well-established community densely populated with single-family homes, many of which date back the origins of the neighborhood in 1946. While most of the area is dedicated to housing, the eastern side of town along US 441 and I-95 is mostly businesses, including several restaurants. Dog-friendly parks and pet supply stores are within driving distance and most of the streets in the community are lined with sidewalks and grass berms for you to walk on safely. If you must walk in an area where there are no sidewalks, be sure you are walking against traffic to make it easier for you to see it.

Like the rest of Miami, you will love the climate here. It is lovely and warm all winter long and beautifully hot in the summer. With 248 days of sunshine every year, you won't find too many days you and Benji can't go for a walk.

This is your typical Miami suburb where the ground was most likely bulldozed flat before the first house was built here. The streets are set out in a grid pattern with one row of houses lining the waterway. No matter where you go in the community, the terrain isn’t going to change much. Thankfully, there are street signs to help you find your way home if you are new here. But this can work out well for anyone whose pooch has managed to tack on a few extra pounds.

Once your dog gets a bit on the heavy side, getting Benji up and moving can prove to be challenging. But with level ground, the two of you can start out nice and slow, getting used to the exercise a little at a time rather than trying to climb a mountain on your first day out together. This can create some great health benefits.

You would think that a community sitting on the water would have plenty of green space. Unfortunately, this is not the case as the only green spaces here are the backyards of those who live here. While there are a few little parks in nearby communities, if you don't mind a bit of a drive, you can travel over to Spur Canal Number One. You will find a vast area of ponds, grassy areas, trees, and trails. This area looks like it might have once been a golf course, judging by the lay of the land. Today, it is a fabulous place to bring Benji for a nice long walk on grass and trails.

Take your time, but make sure you bring plenty of fresh water for both you and Benji. The last thing you need is for them to start drinking the water in any of the ponds as it could make them sick.
