Highland Village is a modestly sized trailer park in North Miami, located west of the FIU Biscayne Bay Campus and across Biscayne Blvd from the Enchanted Forest Elaine Gordon Park. The trailers are packed closely together here and there aren't any sidewalks for you and Rex to walk along. Despite being a trailer park community, you will find this area is well kept and close to shopping, dog-friendly parks, pet supply stores, and places to eat. Just north of the community, there is a large quarry.

The weather here starts out with January temperatures in the 60s and climbs all the way up to the low 90s by mid-to-late summer. While the area does average 59 inches of rain over the course of a year, the one thing you never have to worry about living here is learning how to drive in the snow. It never snows in Miami!

Much like the rest of Miami, the Highland Village neighborhood is mostly flat with very little changes in elevation throughout the area. In other to find some variation in the terrain, you may have to travel northeast to the Oleta River State Park which can offer some gentle slopes to shake things up. With a lack of natural spaces in its direct vicinity, you can expect the neighborhood to mostly consist of sidewalks, roads, and pavement which can be difficult to traverse day after day.

Luckily, this mostly urban area offers quite a few views of the nearby waterfront as well as a handful of amenities that are accessible by Highland Village residents with a short drive to the south or southwest. Because of its proximity to nearby heavy urban areas, you'll want to exercise caution when crossing roads and streets that may have quite a bit of traffic during rush hour.

Highland Village has little to nothing in the way of greenways for you and Rex to enjoy. If you want a grassy area to walk and play on, you have to leave the neighborhood. If you follow NE 135th St., not only will it take you out to the Florida International University Biscayne Bay Campus, but it takes you past the Arch Creek East Environmental Preserve and Owl Island to a wide-open grassy area with multiple trails. These trails run all over, including down to Tarpon Tidal Pool.

While the two of you are walking along the trails or playing on the grass, you have an outstanding view of Biscayne Bay and the many sport boats and sailboats that cruise these waters all year round. If you keep following the road, it will eventually take you to the Oleta State Park where there are miles of trails for the two of you to enjoy hiking along.
