Initially known as Lemon City due to the incredibly sweet lemons that once grew here, this neighborhood was renamed Little Haiti in 2016 due to the high number of Haitians who have chosen to call this area home. The neighborhood has become so entrenched in the culture that you could easily be fooled into thinking you were visiting this Caribbean nation. Many of the commercial and residential buildings have been renovated and painted in an amazing array of colors and Caribbean style.

For those that love island foods, there are plenty of restaurants to choose from. The entire community is well-kept and safe for you and Spot to go for walks. Most of the streets have at least one sidewalk for the two of you to enjoy walking along. There is also a dog-friendly park in the middle of town and a soccer park for the kids to enjoy.

The terrain here is mostly flat and comfortable to walk on. Keep in mind that summers here can reach the upper 80s and low 90s. When temperatures reach this point, the concrete and pavement can also reach temperatures of 135 to 145°F. At these temperatures, the sidewalk can severely burn the pads on Spot's paws in minutes. If you must walk during the heat of the day, be sure to keep them on the grass berms when available. The trick is to make sure you go for your walks during the early morning hours.

The best way to get your exercise in when faced with flat terrain is to try and walk around several blocks, increasing the distance you travel as your stamina increases. You can also take your pup down to the park and let them run around to burn off a few calories and get in a little extra exercise out in the fresh air.

There are a few small parks in the town limits, but the only one of any real size is the Lemon City Park on NE 58th St. This is a small park with plenty of grass and paths for you to explore. But if you want much more in the way of green spaces, it will take a ride in the car.

It's just a short drive to Morningside Park where there are acres of grass to play on, winding trails, and a magnificent view of Biscayne Bay where you can watch the speedboats and sailboats pass on by. This park also offers a public swimming pool, tennis courts, a boat ramp, basketball courts, and a baseball field. This is a wonderful place for the two of you to go for a nice long walk in the sunshine. You can always bring the whole family out for a day of fun, just make sure you bring your sunblock!
