Shorecrest is a well-established community of medium-sized homes, apartments, and businesses to the south along the waterway and along Biscayne Blvd. Many of the historic homes here were built in the 1930s and 1940s. Over the last few years, the area has seen new development and significant revitalization. Most who live here consider Shorecrest to be a safe place to take your dog out for a walk. The nearest dog-friendly parks and pet supply stores are only a short drive away and the area sports a number of excellent restaurants serving a range of fast-foods and plated dishes.

Like most areas of Miami, the climate here is very inviting with winter lows hovering around 60°F with some rain and summer highs right around the 90°F mark. This is just hot enough to keep you from walking the dog in the middle of the day, but not so hot you can't enjoy being out in it.

The terrain in Shorecrest is flat all the way to the water. Most of the streets are lined with grass berms and sidewalks for you and your pup to walk on. The only hard part is trying to find new ways to make your walks a little more interesting. If you are looking for a way to turn your walk into a good workout, then try taking the NE 79th St. bridge over to the Pelican Harbor boat ramp. Not only will going up and down the bridge add more challenge to your walks, but there is a large grassy area to get in a little more exercise.

Alternatively, you can simply walk in different directions or around different blocks. It's up to you to choose how much exercise the two of you get and where you go, but the important thing is that you get out and go for a walk every day!

Within the community of Shorecrest, the only green spaces are the large backyards. If you want grass and parks, it's time to get in the car and go for a ride. There is a patch of grass at the Pelican Harbor boat ramp, but that's all it is. The same applies to Military Trail Park to the north as it is just a small park with a few trees and a walking trail.

Down the coast is Bayfront Park with 32 acres of trees, grass, and walking paths to enjoy. Some say this park is dog-friendly while others say it is not, so be sure to check beforehand.

Just a little further down the coast is Morningside Park running along the coast. Here, you will be welcomed with vast areas of grass, trails to walk on, a public swimming pool, playground for the kids, picnic tables for the whole family, and plenty of shade trees for those hot summer days.
