Bonnie Brae is a small community located between the Atlantic Ocean to the east and the Indian River North. The homes here are modest single-family dwellings tightly packed together on shady lots. You are close enough to historic Flagler Avenue that you can walk to the selection of boutique and vintage stores, restaurants, and taverns along the avenue. For groceries and more places to dine, it's a five-minute drive to the south where there is a supermarket and several other stores.

The beach is at the end of the block and on the other side of A1A. Along with the coast, there are several other parks and green spaces to take your dog for walks. Some, like the Spruce Creek Preserve, offer miles of trails for the two of you to hike on while others, like Smyrna Dunes Park, offer plenty of open space for you and your dog to play in.

Being on the beachside typically means having to deal with a lot of traffic and, to be sure, S Atlantic tends to be a bustling road all day long. However, the surrounding streets are all residential and the only traffic you are likely to encounter on them is local. But if you do venture out along A1A, expect to deal with a lot of traffic and be sure you use the pedestrian crossings for your safety and that of your dog.

Along with this, you are likely to encounter a lot of people on the sidewalks. You will need to keep your dog on a short leash. There is a significant traffic issue over on the beach for you and your dog to deal with as vehicles are permitted on the sand. You and your pup must pay close attention as you walk along as most drivers are not paying attention to everything going on around.

Along with miles of beach for the two of you to use for your daily walks, there are several parks in the local vicinity. Some, like Esther Street Park, are little more than a parking lot with a playground. Others like the Grayce K. Barch Park and Grace K. Barch North Beach Community Park offer wide swaths of shade trees where you and your pup can play in the shade when the temperatures soar into the 90s.

A little further north is Smyrna Dunes Park. This park offers you and your dog a chance to walk through and enjoy five ecosystems. To help protect the dunes, there is a two-mile elevated boardwalk which you and your dog can hike along. You can also take your pooch out to the beach for a swim in the warm waters of the Ponce Inlet while you are here. Be sure you keep them on a leash at all times!
