Fishers is a small, mostly residential area to the west of the North Dixie Freeway next door to Chisholm Elementary School. Most of the homes here enjoy larger yards with plenty of shade trees. Being this close to the freeway means having access to a selection of places to eat, including both fast-food and family-style sit down restaurants, many of which are less than a ten-minute drive from your home.

As you drive further into town, you will come across grocery stores, gas stations, and of course places to buy your pup food and treats. If you take either the North or South Causeway to the beachside, there are plenty more places to eat and a great selection of tourist shops. Along with this, there are more bars and fabulous restaurants for you and your family to enjoy a meal together at after a fun day at the beach.

Fishers is a residential neighborhood with few sidewalks for you and your pup to take your daily walks on. The streets here are quite narrow and only a few of them will have safe walkways. The area is older and, due to its proximity to the freeway and the nearby school, tends to be very busy during the day, especially during rush hours and when the school buses are running.

The ground here is moderately flat with little to challenge either you or your dog when you go out for your daily walks. However, what the neighborhood lacks in challenge it makes up for in the number of blocks the two of you can cover each time you go out. Be sure you use a short leash when walking in residential areas as there may be children playing in the neighborhood. Using a short leash will help keep both the kids playing and your dog safer.

There are a couple of small parks in the area, but they offer little more than a patch of grass for the two of you to play on. If you and your dog want something more than this, a short car ride is required. The nearest of the many green spaces nearby is the Doris Leeper Spruce Creek Preserve. You and your dog will find 1,637 acres of dense Florida forests and swamps filled with trails to hike along. If you are ambitious, you can hike all the way to Rose Bay!

If sun and sand are more your thing, it’s a ten-minute drive to the beach which offers both dry sand that is harder to walk on and wet sand that is much easier. When your walk is over, be sure the two of you take the time to cool off with a swim. During the summer months, the water is quite warm and comfortable.
