The Ocean Beach Club sits right on the beach, offering you the opportunity to be out the door and in the water in less than 2 minutes! On the other side of peninsula sits the Mosquito Lagoon Aquatic Preserve and Indian River Lagoon Park. For those of you who like to cook your own meals, you are a five-minute drive from a Publix grocery store. If eating out is more your speed, there are plenty of fast-food and sit-down restaurants within five to ten minutes of the club.

If you come here in the summer, you will find temperatures in the upper 80s and lower 90s with long sunny days. Those who choose to visit in the winter will enjoy daytime temperatures in the 60s and 70s. No matter when you stop in, you won't find many days when you can blame the weather for not taking your pup out for a walk.

Beyond being mostly flat, the terrain here consists of the familiar coastal sand on the east side and residential neighborhood blocks on the west. Each offers you its own advantages and problems.

The pavement in the surrounding neighborhoods makes for very easy walking and is excellent for those who are not used to walking on sand. But pavement can be very hot and extremely rough, both of which can be difficult to put up with for prolonged periods of time. There are a few grassier spots to take a small reprieve from the monotonous strolls, but you'll want to say on the oceanfront for a more comfortable option.

Keeping your pup at your side as you walk along the edge of the water is a great alternative. The wet sand can be easier on your dog's paws while keeping them cool at the same time. You'll find no shortage of space to roam on this side.

When it comes to green spaces, you have the beach right outside your door for you and your pooch to use for walking, jogging, or running. There are more miles of beach than the two of are likely to be able to manage in a single walk. How much of the coast you have to walk on will depend on the status of the tide!

If you drive north on S Atlantic Avenue for about ten minutes, you will find yourself in Smyrna Dunes Park. This is one of the few county parks where our four-legged friends are welcome as long as they are on a leash. Here, you and your pooch can explore five different ecosystems as you hike along the boardwalk and nature trails. The beach is open to both man and beast, so be sure you take your pup out for a nice cool swim before you go home!
