If ever there was a place to live where you could sit back and say to yourself, "Ah, this is the life!" Sandstone would definitely be on the hotlist. Living here puts you one block from the beach and the same distance from Indian River Lagoon Park and the Mosquito Lagoon Aquatic Preserve. This is a tightly packed neighborhood of new homes located between Michigan Avenue and Our Lady Star of the Sea, a Catholic Church.

Living here puts you close to amenities that include excellent restaurants, a number of small shops, and a large grocery store. However, if you need a pet supply store or a fenced in dog park, a trip back over to the mainland is required.

The homes in Sandstone are modest single-family units which reflects the majority of homes in the area. Ensure you get to take advantage of the cool breezes coming in off the ocean on hot summer days, which might help you turn down your air conditioning.

Beyond being quite flat, the terrain here is relatively walkable with sidewalks on the main streets. But you can expect to do a lot of your walking on the road, so be sure you can see and be seen to avoid accidents. In general, as long as you stick to the residential roads, you shouldn't have to deal with much in the way of traffic beyond rush hours.

The same applies to pedestrian traffic. The majority of all tourist traffic, both vehicular and pedestrian, tend to stick to S Atlantic Avenue and the beach. One problem you will encounter during your daily walks, especially in the summer, is a distinct lack of shade. While many of the surrounding properties in the area have large shaded yards, there isn't much cover to protect you from the scorching summer sun. Of course, there are a few places nearby where you can take your dog for walks under the shade of thick woods.

What do you do when the community you live in is sandwiched between two vast green spaces? You make sure you make use of them to take your dog for walks on something besides pavement at every opportunity you get! To the east is the Atlantic Ocean and the accompanying beach. This is an excellent place to go walking with your dog, especially in the early morning hours. With a variety of terrain to choose from during your beachfront stroll, the area provides quite a few ways to get your exercise in.

Indian River Lagoon Park offers heavily shaded trails for you and your dog to walk on and stay out of the summer sun. When the winter winds are blowing in off the beach, the park also makes an excellent place to walk as the trees help to block the wind and make your walks a little less chilly.
