Shadow Pines Est is a modern single-family home community on Turnbull Bay Road sitting just north of the Sugar Mill golf course. The community is close to I-95, but in order to get on the highway, you have to drive south to SR-44. The journey is only a five to ten-minute drive during rush hour which, coincidently, happens to be the only time there is any traffic to speak of in the neighborhood.

While you might be close to the Sugar Mill Country Club, if you like to shop or dine out, you must drive back into town or over to the beachside. The good news is that no matter where you want to go in town, everything is within no more the twenty-five minutes' drive, even on a busy day. There are several vast green spaces for you and your dog to go hiking in both for your daily walks and the longer hikes on the weekends.

Living out here in Shadow Pines Est means living out in the country without actually being in the country. In other words, the homes here are in a more rural setting with fields and trees for neighbors rather than more houses piled on top of more houses. The community sits on a cul-de-sac which helps significantly to keep traffic to a minimum. You are likely to see some traffic during rush hours and when the school buses are running. But beyond this, Shadow Pines Est is a quiet place to live and raise your kids.

The one big thing missing here is sidewalks for you to walk your pup on and for the kids to walk to the school bus. But when you consider the lack of vehicular traffic in the neighborhood, as long as you pay attention to where you are walking and the few vehicles you are likely to encounter, your walks should be safe enough and enjoyable.

The entire community sits in a vast green space of woods, trails, lakes, and open spaces. These woods go all the way to the interstate and then continue on the other side. They offer you and your pooch plenty of room to wander out in the fresh air and sunshine along with plenty of shade trees to keep the sun off your head.

To the east is the Doris Leeper Spruce Creek Preserve. This vast 1,637-acre nature preserve offers you trails to hike that take you through the swamps and forests and all the way to Rose Bay and back if you are up for the challenge of a six-mile round trip. Along the way, there is an observation tower that provides you with a spectacular view out over the swamps.

The trails are very popular, so expect to share them with other dog walkers and hikers.
