Spleices is a small neighborhood located just off the S Dixie Freeway and close to both the North and South Causeways that take you over to the beachside. If your idea of a good time is going out to eat, there are several great restaurants just a short drive away. The same applies to places to buy dog food and other pet supplies as there are several pet supply stores in the area. There are a couple of small parks with just enough grass for you to enjoy in the nearby area, though you'll need to venture a little further for anything larger.

For those who love the hot weather, summers here are full of endless sunshine and temperatures in the 90s. But if you want to be able to go outside and take your pooch for a walk all year round, then you certainly won't mind winters either with days in the 60s and 70s.

The terrain around your home here in Spleices is residential with block after block for you and Fido to use. There are sidewalks available in some parts of this small square of properties, but they can mostly be found as you get closer to the main street in the area, Mary Avenue. Closer to the houses, you'll only find a few paved roads to take advantage of with some grassy areas on private properties that may require some extra caution to use. Luckily, there are a few public properties on the outskirts of the neighborhood that you can use for your walks as long as you're willing to cross the main road. Just watch for the traffic as you do so.

While most of this area has some grassy spots, you'll want to avoid venturing on them too often as they are normally considered private lawns. Try a nearby park for a better alternative.

Within five blocks of Spleices, there are a couple of small parks including Myrtle Avenue Park and Pettis Park, both of which offer enough grass for you and Fido to play around on. Since these are public parks, be sure you pack bags with you to keep the space clean.

If you want somewhere a little bigger to walk around in, then you are only a short drive from the Doris Leeper Spruce Creek Preserve. The preserve stretches over 1,600 acres covering between Port Orange and New Smyrna Beach.  Inside the park is a 536-foot long boardwalk that leads the start of no less than three different trails for you and your pooch to hike along. The trails lead to the 15-foot tall observation tower and, from there, drift all way to Rose Bay. They are open to hikers, horseback riders, cyclists, and dog walkers to take your daily walks out in the open air.
