Woodcrest is a small community of older homes located just west of the railroad repair yards on S Myrtle Avenue. Although you are close to the railyards, there is a dense buffer of woods to help keep the noise at bay. The woods stretch from SR-44 all the way south to 10th Street and offer you and your dog several trails and places to go walking where you can get out of the intense summer sun.

If you like to eat out, you have a few chain restaurants less than five minutes away on US-1. Or, if you prefer something beyond fast-food, there are plenty of excellent restaurants nearby. The same applies to things like grocery and pet supply stores. In fact, from your home in Woodcrest, everything you could possibly want, including the beach, are all well within a 20-minute drive on an average day. It could be a little longer when traffic is heavy.

One of the advantages of living here is that, while you are close to the action of the central part of town, the street you live on is one of the quieter roads in the area. On any given day, you aren't likely to be bothered by much in the way of vehicular or pedestrian traffic. S Myrtle is a nice quiet street for you and your pup to walk.

With the woods across the street running between SR-44 and 10th Street, you and your dog should have no problem finding trails to walk on that do not involve walking on the road. There is a wide sidewalk running on the east side that has plenty of shade from the searing Florida summer sun. There are a couple of lakes in the immediate vicinity that you can walk around and perhaps let your dog cool off in when it gets too hot outside for them.

The entire neighborhood is surrounded by woods, some of which have trails running through them. Others may be too dense for you and your pup to walk through safely.

To the west and about 15 minutes on SR-44 is the S Tomoka Wildlife Management Area. This vast undeveloped area is part of the Tiger Bay Wildlife Management Area, covering over 30,000 acres. In the WMA, you and your dog can explore miles of trails that are open to cyclists, horseback riders, hikers, and others like you who are out walking their pets.

If you prefer to take your dog out to somewhere they can run around off-leash, you are only ten minutes away from the New Smyrna Beach Dog Park. Here, you will find two separate fenced-in areas. Each offers a watering station for the dogs, a number of agility obstacles to play on, and shady places for you to sit in while your dog goes out and plays.
