The Herrich Terrace Port Orange neighborhood stretches between US-1 and Orange Avenue. This is a section of family homes sitting close to a commercial business park. The houses here are surrounded by trees to the north and east, with a canal behind them. The homes are upscale with larger-than-average yards for those with kids of all ages.

One great thing about having a home here is that you don’t have far to drive to find essential amenities. A short drive south to Dunlawton Avenue will take you to the central shopping area in town where you will find numerous big-box retailers, grocery stores, and pet supply stores to keep your pup well-fed and stocked up on treats.

Take this same road to the east over the Halifax River and your journey will end when you find somewhere to park on the beach. There are even small parks nearby and bigger ones within driving distance for you and your pooch to enjoy.

Herrich Terrace Port Orange is small neighborhood across the street from a commercial park and US-1, a major highway that runs from Fort Kent in Maine all the way down south to the tip of Key West. You should be prepared to deal with a lot of traffic on both US-1 and Orange Avenue. Even Ocean Avenue, the cross-street, tends to be busy most of the day. The traffic gets very hectic during rush hour and never really seems to slow down by much.

Traffic like this can make taking your dog for walks a little more challenging, especially if your dog is not used to being around much of it. You should always keep your pup on a short leash for their safety, but a much safer walk would be to take your pooch over to Riverside Park and then use the grass walkway to walk along the Halifax River. You can enjoy watching the boats cruising by while you stroll along!

There are woods and canals on the east and north side of the community where you and your dog can go for walks in the shade. However, Riverside Park and the riverside walk offer you plenty of room for the two of you to enjoy. The walk is particularly beautiful early in the morning before the rest of the world comes to life and there is a little bit of mist coming off the river.

Over the river and through the town, it's off to the beach you go! It's only a five to ten-minute journey and you can park your car on the sandy dunes themselves. Just watch the tide as it can easily render your vehicle unusable. Otherwise, you can head north or south on the sand for as far as you and your dog feel like going. It's a fantastic way to enjoy the Florida sunshine and fresh air!
