Oak Hammock is a small neighborhood of townhomes at the corner of Sauls Street and Madeline Avenue. It is just one of many neighborhoods on this side of town that are both family and dog-friendly. The townhomes have small yards with plenty of shade trees, giving you room to take your pup out for quick potty breaks.

For those of you who have younger kids, the Sugar Mill Elementary School is just down the road, close enough for them to walk to. The Atlantic Animal Hospital is less than five minutes away and the central shopping district on Dunlawton Avenue is only a few minutes to the south.

Living here puts you close to Reed Canal Park where you and your pup can go walking in the woods, stroll around the lake, or play in the vast field. If you are looking for a family activity, the Dunlawton Sugar Mill Gardens are just a few blocks away, but you will have to leave the pup at home.

The ground here is quite flat and unexciting, but all the neighborhoods around you have sidewalks for the two of you to take your daily walks on. Like most working-class residential communities, you and your pup will encounter significant amounts of traffic during the morning and evening rush hours. Once you know what times these are, you can adjust when the two of you go out for your strolls to avoid the worst of it.

With a family-friendly neighborhood comes plenty of kids running around. If your pup is skittish or nervous around strangers, keep them on a short leash. This can avoid some stressful incidents in the area.

With such a small community, you won't have to worry about getting turned around or lost. The main street will take you in a basic circle, making it easy to head back home whenever you're ready to pack it in.

The nearest usable green space is Reed Canal Park. You can access the woods at the southern end of this park from Madeline Avenue and follow the trails through them to the lake and then out into a vast area of grass. Here, the two of you can run around, play, and have a great time out in the fresh air!

If you want to take your pup to an off-leash dog park, the Seemore Memorial Dog Park is less than fifteen minutes to the south on Spruce Creek Road. This one-acre park offers fenced-in areas, including one for the little guys, one for the big guys, and one for those who have special needs. Water and waste bags are provided and there are plenty of benches in the shade for you to sit on while your pup gets out there and plays with the other dogs and has a good time.
