Sitting on South Ridgewood Avenue and US-1, the Orange Port Village Condo is a business center set in front of a large residential area. This entire section of US-1 is filled with a wide variety of businesses. Luckily, the residential areas are set back behind all of this, which helps to keep the traffic out on the highway where it belongs. Many of the houses here have an excellent view out over the Halifax River and the myriad of islands in this part of the river.

While there are a number of businesses along this part of the highway, if you want a grocery store, pet supply store, or big box stores like Walmart or Publix, you can take either South Nova Road or US-1 up to Dunlawton Avenue. Here, you will find all of these and more as this strip of road is home to most of the restaurants in town.

South Ridgewood Avenue is one of the busiest north-south roads in town. The traffic never stops flowing here, but is especially heavy from early morning until late at night. Within the residential area, things are a lot quieter, with normal rush hour and school bus traffic levels. This schedule is pretty regular, making it easy for you to set the times when you can take your dog out for a walk to avoid the bulk of the hustle and bustle.

With flat ground and few sidewalks in the residential areas, you and your dog will have to resort to walking on the streets. If you head to the north of the community, there is wide grass berm on the bank of the river for the two of you to take your walks along. The walk is more enjoyable than just the sidewalks and roads and offers a spectacular view of the river and the many boats docked along the way.

There isn't much in the way of usable green space within walking distance, but if you don't mind taking a short drive on US-1 to the south, your journey will take you the Spruce Creek Preserve and the Doris Leeper Preserve, a 1,637-acre space. Here, you will find trails that take you past the wetlands and through the forests and scrublands. There is an observation tower with a spectacular view of the wetlands and trails that go all the way south to New Smyrna Beach.

If your dog likes to run around off-leash and play with other dogs, then you are only a ten-minute drive from the Seemore Memorial Dog Park. Inside this one-acre park, there are three separate areas, including one just for dogs who have special needs. Each area has a water station for the pups, benches in the shade, and a rinse station to wash your pooch after they are finished playing.
