While there are a number of small tourist shops along South Atlantic Avenue, if you want grocery stores, pet supply stores, department stores, and more, you'll have to take the bridge back over to the mainland. The good news is that if you stay on Dunlawton Avenue, you will find stores like Publix, Walmart, a Pet Supermarket, Petco, Home Depot, and Lowe's! What is the terrain like in Sunnydale?
While living so close to the beach does come with a lot of traffic, most of it stays on South Atlantic Avenue. Sunnydale is one block to the west off of Cardinal Boulevard. That's not to say there won't be any traffic here, only that it will be significantly less! The only thing missing within the neighborhood is sidewalks for you and your dog to walk on. However, as a dead-end road, the two of you should be safe as long as you use a short leash.
Once you reach Cardinal Boulevard, there is a wide sidewalk running along the west side of it which you and your dog can use for your daily walks.
