Despite its name, there aren't any runways or airports at Taylor Airport in Port Orange. Instead, there is a small strip mall and a few other businesses sitting on the corner of South Williamson Boulevard and Taylor Road. However, right behind them are a field and lake, followed by a vast residential area of single-family homes. Being this close to the I-95-Dunlawton Avenue interchange, you may have to learn to live with the traffic noise the interstate generates.

Just because you are on the west side of I-95 and away from the heart of town doesn’t mean you are miles from essential amenities! On the other side of the interchange is Dunlawton Avenue, the central shopping district in town. Dunlawton is also the only road through town that takes you over the river and to the beach. In fact, it comes to and where the beach starts, allowing you to drive on the sand itself!

Along Taylor Avenue, Dunlawton, and South Williamson Boulevard, traffic stays very busy from early in the morning until late at night. I-95 never slows down either, but you'll never have to worry about walking your dog along any of these roads. Within the residential community, you have plenty of space to walk to and fro with your pampered pooch. You may just need to stay away from the streets that lead out to the main, busier roads!

Part of the community has sidewalks for the two of you to enjoy. In other areas, you will be limited to walking on the streets. Given that most of the roads here are heavily shaded, you'll need to take the appropriate precautions such as wearing light-colored clothing and walking facing traffic. This will help motorists to see you more easily and it'll help you see them just as clearly as they approach, making it significantly safer for the two of you to walk!

Right behind the business area is a large field for you and your dog to walk and play on and a lake to walk around. The residential area has multiple lakes and areas of grass as well!

If you have a home in the residential community behind Taylor Airport, you can think about heading to Turnbull Bay Road and to the entrance to the Doris Leeper Spruce Creek Preserve. This is a 1,600-acre nature preserve covering wetlands and forests with miles of trails running throughout. If you are truly ambitious, you can hike all the way to New Smyrna Beach and back! It's only a six-mile round trip.

Alternatively, you can take Dunlawton Avenue all the way out to the beach. You can even drive on the sand and park your car! Then the two of you can hike to your heart's' content. Just keep in mind that it can get hot out there!
