Whispering Creek is a large area to the southwest of town, set deep in the woods, offering you a peaceful home away from the hustle and bustle of town. Having said this, the quiet of the neighborhood is further enhanced by the fact that the South Tomoka Wildlife Management Area surrounds you. While the quiet is nice, the nearest amenities such as restaurants, grocery stores, and pet supply stores are all back in town.

Being this far out of town also means it will take you and your family, including the furry member, about half an hour to reach the beach on the other side of the Halifax River to the east. But there are plenty of other places for you to take your pooch for long hikes in the area, including the Seemore Memorial Dog Park and several others where dogs are welcome all within a thirty-minute drive.

"Extremely rural" would be a good way to describe the area out in Whispering Creek. Much of the area backs onto the South Tomoka Wildlife Management Area. However, the area is being slowly developed, so along with the small amount of local traffic, you can expect to see a fair number of construction vehicles during the day. Those who live on Country Farms Road won't see this in their neighborhood as it is fully developed.

Walking your dog out here is very much like strolling down a country road in that the streets aren't that wide and there aren't any sidewalks for you and your dog to walk on. Instead, you will be sharing the roads with the vehicular traffic which, while rush hours are minimal, means construction traffic. You and your dog will always need to pay close attention to what's going around you and use the grass berms to walk on wherever possible.

Living in Whispering Creek puts you in the midst of a vast undeveloped forest area. There are trails winding all through the woods for the two of you to explore. Many run under the dense forest canopy so the two of you can enjoy a little respite from the Florida summer sun.

But the woods don't stop here. The entire community sits on the edge the South Tomoka WMA which is part of the 30,000-acre Tiger Bay State Forest. During the Summer Firestorm Wildfires of 1998, over half of this area was badly damaged or destroyed. Since then, with a lot of help, the area has been restored and now offers you and your dog miles of trails to hike and plenty of wildlife to look for. Be sure you bring plenty of water for both of you and mosquito repellent. There's quite a few of them out in the muggy Florida weather!
