Animals have been a part of my life and home since I was born. I grew up around dogs ranging from dachshunds, basset hounds, and golden retrievers. I currently have a 7-year-old English Bulldog of my own named Pearl who I got when she was 8 weeks old. She is quite the character. She is very active and enjoys walks/hikes on local trails, especially when its cooler outside. Dogs give me joy and I look forward to meeting yours!

Through this and my own experiences with my animals, I have learned how to properly take care and love them.

I love spending time with dogs whenever I can! I have grown up living with at least 1 dog my entire life, and my friends always joke about how much I baby my dog to always make sure she's okay. Because of this, I dogsit for friends fairly often, and I've always had fantastic experiences working with new animals.

Dog Walking in Athens

Athens is an eclectic city that’s home to beautiful Victorian-era buildings, delectable independent coffee shops, and an abundance of live music venues. If you’re big into music, be sure to visit The 40 Watt Club, where the B-52’s and R.E.M. started their lauded music careers. You and your pup will have a grand time walking the historic streets of Athens and taking in all there is to see.

Need to take a break away from the sights and sounds of the city and roam free? Bring Fido for a fun visit at C. Spot Run at Sandy Creek Nature Center. There’s a free, fenced, off-leash dog park, as well as three private parks with running water, picnic tables, and shade trees located at this gorgeous nature center. The private parks will cost you $1.00 per hour (it goes to a great cause), but it’s well worth the fee!

After something a little more relaxing? Follow the local favorites, or simplify your experience on a site like Tripping.com, and check out some great log cabins offered up as vacation rentals in the Athens area. Book a cabin and cuddle up next to a warm fireplace with your canine companion; you can’t go wrong! Whatever your reason for coming into town, Athens is sure to put a smile on your face and a wag in your pup’s tail.

Located in the heart of Athens you will find one of the strangest, best dog parks you will ever come across. Memorial Park is everything you could ask for and more. This park has plenty of playgrounds for children so you can take the whole family! It has a completely fenced-in dog park with plenty of space so your dog can run around and play with other dogs. Interestingly, the park also has a small zoo where you can see different types of animals. Just make sure you take a leash to use while you’re not in the fenced in dog park area.

All too often seen as a party town, Athens is one of the most underrated cities in Georgia. In the eastmost part of the city you will find Ben Burton Park. Although this is not a dog park it has everything you could ask for while on an outing with your dog. The park has 32 acres’ worth of large open spaces where you and your dog can sit and relax or run around. It also has trails where you will see many dog owners walking and running with their dogs. In addition, it has direct access to the river so your dog can swim while you get your toes wet!

Unfortunately Athens does not have a large number of dog parks. However, there are plenty of other parks such as the Southeast Clarke Park where you can take your dog. The park is fairly new with brand new equipment and seating. The park has a fenced-in area which is often used as a dog park by locals. Unfortunately, there are not a ton of amenities for dog owners so make sure you take your own doggie poop bags and water. Furthermore, this park is great for a low-key evening stroll with your dog. However, it can get very busy in the evenings so make sure you have a leash!

Who doesn’t love to run around in lush green grass under the shade of hundred-year-old trees? If you find yourself to be one of these people and know your dog would love to follow suit, head to Sandy Creek Park- located in the north side of Athens. This park has plenty of space for dogs to run around with leases and enjoy themselves. There is a small fee of $1 to take your dog to the park where you will have access to three large fenced-in areas. The owners provide doggie poop bags and plenty of water so you and your dog can have a pawsome time.

Only 25 miles from Athens is Winder, a town that is home to one of the best parks in the area. Fort Yargo State Park is not a dog park but makes up for it with its open shaded areas and beach access. You can even view a log fort that was built in the late 18th century by colonial settlers! The park is often used by campers so you will have to keep your dog on a leash. However, because the park is so large you will have no problem walking or running around it with your dog. Just make sure you take your own water and doggie poop bags as this is not a dog park.
